A host of celebrities including Millie Bobby Brown and Katy Perry have been recognised for their animal advocacy.

Alongside the musicians are Madelyn Cline and Ashley Jackson, who are winners of peta2’s 2023 Libby Awards.

‘Libby’ is short for ‘liberation’ and annually, PETA’s youth division recognises the young people, organisations, and brands they describe as going above and beyond for animals.

Other 2023 nominees include Kourtney Kardashian, Wiz Khalifa, Billie Eilish, Halle Bailey, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande.

Animal Advocacy winners

This year, Millie Bobby Brown has picked up two Libby Awards.

One is Favorite Celeb Cruelty-Free Beauty Brand for Florence by Mills—her vegan line of makeup and other products that aren’t tested on animals.

The other is the Pawsome Animal Adoption Advocate award for adopting her dog, Pepperoni.

She continually encourages her followers to visit their local animal shelter to give a companion animal a loving home, rather than buying an animal from a shop or breeder.

Madelyn Cline snapped up the won Best Viral Moment for Animals prize for promoting vegan leather and sustainable fashion through her collaboration with veggie Stella McCartney, who is known for using innovative animal-free materials in her designs.

Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s designer shoe brand, Katy Perry Collections, won Favorite Celeb Vegan Brand for its unique and colourful styles – which are also, most of all, animal-friendly.

And Rev. Jesse Jackson’s daughter Ashley Jackson picked up the Favorite PETA Collab award for standing up for animal and human rights with her campaign for food justice.

Making a difference

In a statement, peta2 Senior Director Rachelle Owen spoke about how these young people are doing their best to help animals.

She said: “These animal allies are making a difference every day just by promoting delicious vegan food and trendy vegan products and adopting from animal shelters.

“peta2 encourages everyone to follow in their compassionate footsteps by keeping animals off their plates and out of their shopping carts.”

According to PETA, winners of its Libby Award winners will receive a selection of goodies.

They include a personalised certificate from peta2 and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
