UK cheese giant Cathedral City is venturing into the vegan cheese sector once more with its second dairy-free offering.
The brand has launched a new Spring Onion and Cracked Black Pepper Alternative to Soft Cheese in 332 Tesco stores across the UK.
Its latest launch follows the success of its first vegan product, a plant-based version of its classic cheddar.
According to the brand, soft cheese is the fourth most in-demand format in the category (following block, sliced and grated), making the arrival of its new product a timely one.
And Cathedral City, which is owned by Saputo Dairy UK, notes that sales of plant-based soft cheese continue to grow year-on-year.

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Neil Stewart, Head of Marketing for Cathedral City at Saputo Dairy UK, said the brand’s experts have created a product that tastes great.
He said: “At Saputo Dairy UK, we think all cheese and cheese flavoured products should taste great.
“Our cheese experts have created a new format and flavour profile which is enjoyable for those with dairy allergies or who want to reduce their dairy consumption.
“Cathedral City’s reputation for great quality and value for money has refreshed the plant-based market allowing more shoppers to try plant-based alternatives to cheese.”

Vegan cheese success
The brand launched its vegan cheddar alternative last September, with the product now available in three formats – block, sliced and grated.
Since then, it has earned the third highest Volume Market Share, as well as praise from consumers.
The block-based version of the cheese won a coveted Plant Based Taste Award in 2022.
Speaking as the product launched, Neil Stewart described the launch as a ‘momentous occasion’ for the company.
He said: “Extending our portfolio into dairy-free alternatives for the first time with a range of great tasting alternatives to cheese, meaning more people can enjoy our delicious products.”
Spring Onion and Cracked Black Pepper Alternative to Soft Cheese is available in Tesco stores nationwide now, with an RRP of £2.50.
