Elite cyclist Chris Froome, who has won the Tour de France an impressive four times, has switched to a plant-based diet after being inspired by vegan athlete documentary The Game Changers.
Taking to Instagram stories to share a photo of a pint of vegan Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Froome wrote: “Decided to go vegan since watching Netflix – The Game Changers. Ben & Jerry’s has got me covered.”
The athlete is currently recovering from a crash at the Critérium du Dauphiné earlier this year and may have been inspired to adopt a plant-based diet in a bid to aid his recovery as the documentary features a host of well-known top athletes who have ditched animal products and seen noticeable improvements in their healthy, recovery times and performances.
Froome is not alone is being influenced by the hit documnetary as Greggs’ CEO Roger Whiteside has also recently made the switch to eating a plant-based diet.
Whiteisde decided to try eating a plant-based diet three weeks ago stating: @If you’d asked me three weeks ago which roll I preferred I would have said the original sausage roll, but I’m now attempting to live on a vegan diet.
“I was encouraged to watch a film on Netflix called The Gamechangers – I watched it and thought this is interesting. Obviously there are arguments based around animal welfare and the environment, but this was all about the health benefits, and I thought I should give it a go.”
