If you’re yet to discover LoveRaw, now’s the time to do so. LoveRaw is renowned for taking classic chocolate bars and veganising them, from Snickers dupes to Ferrero Rocher-style chocolate balls.
However, the vegan chocolatier’s most famous creations have to be its Kinder Bueno-style dairy-free chocolate bar that instantly became a hit for vegans and non-vegans alike.

Ritter Sport has long been our go-to brand when we need a chocolate fix on the go. They have a huge range of flavours, including six lip-smacking vegan options, all of which are widely available in supermarkets and corner shops across the country.
What’s more, these chunky chocolate bars are a great wallet-friendly option for the budget conscious too as they retail at £1.25 per 100g.
With so many flavours to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the combination of dark chocolate and sweet almond marzipan makes this classic bar a firm favourite. They say the clue’s in the name, and that’s certainly the case with Fellow Creatures who have made it their mission to create chocolate that’s harmless to animals, but big on flavour.
Fellow Creatures currently offer five crowd-pleasing flavours to choose from: Salted Caramel, Creamy Hazelnut, Creamy Milkless, Matcha White Choccy, and Raspberry White Choc.
While all the flavours are spectacular, Raspberry White Choc is a real standout with its pastel pink hue and fruity flavour. The chocolate itself is as creamy and smooth as it gets, while real raspberry seeds give it a nice, crunchy texture.

5. Tony’s Chocolonely Dark Creamy Hazelnut Crunch
If you want the best vegan dark chocolate, it has to be Tony’s Chocolonely. These thick and chunky chocolate bars make the best treats and are proudly 100% slave-free so you can feel good about eating them.
Tony’s Chocolonely has three vegan chocolate bars to choose from, including Extra Dark Chocolate (70%), Dark Almond & Sea Salt (51%), and the new Dark Creamy Hazelnut Crunch (51%). It’s a hard one to choose a favourite from the three, but the new Dark Creamy Hazelnut Crunch takes the top spot.
The chocolate is superbly rich and creamy with a punchy cocoa flavour that’s strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness thanks to the hazelnut paste. With small pieces of hazelnut swirled into the mix along with sea salt flakes, it also has a good amount of crunch in each bite to keep things interesting.
Unfortunately, with great taste comes a great price. These are not the most affordable chocolate bars on the market. In fact, a bar of Tony’s Chocolonely can cost almost £4. But if you’re in the mood to treat yourself, Tony’s is always the answer.

6. Jeavons Rabble Bar
If you’ve got a sweet tooth and go crazy for caramel or are nuts about toffee, look no further than Jeavons. This independent, family-run business is on a mission to prove that plant-based toffee-based treats taste every bit as delicious as dairy-based sweet treats – and boy do they deliver on that promise!
They currently offer a range of 14 vegan toffee treats, from honeycomb bites and traditional toffee slabs to chocolate-covered bars – with many inspired by some of the UK’s most popular chocolate bars such as Twix and Daim bars.
With so many mouth-watering products to choose from, it’s hard to pick as favourite – but with roasted peanuts in chewy caramel all wrapped up in vegan milk chocolate, the Rabble bar is a must-try.
Generously sized and reasonably priced (which is especially impressive for a small business using sustainably-sourced ingredients), you get two fingers to enjoy – which is great if you have the willpower to save the second bar for later!
Unlike mass-produced toffee which is often sickly sweet, Jeavons’ toffee has a deep caramel flavour with a buttery richness that is oh-so moreish. It’s superbly chewy but soft enough that it won’t stick your teeth together, and they’ve packed it full of roasted peanuts so each bite has a nutty flavour and texture. All of this goodness is enrobed in the smoothest vegan milk chocolate you’ll ever taste and wrapped up in retro-style packaging for a touch of whimsy.

7. Galaxy Vegan Salted Caramel
As makers of one of the silkiest chocolates on the planet, we were overjoyed when Galaxy launched its vegan range. What’s even more exciting is that since the launch, the brand has continued to increase the range with tempting new flavours such as Fruit & Nut, Orange, and Crumbled Cookie, giving us plenty of choice when we fancy something sweet.
With all those flavours to choose from it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the salted caramel-filled bars are a real stand-out. To give the chocolate its signature smooth texture, Galaxy has used hazelnut paste which means it has lovely hint of nuttiness too.
There’s no weird, waxy chocolate here, it melts in the mouth with a pleasing cocoa flavour, just like a good chocolate bar should.
Each segment is then generously filled with salted caramel that oozes out when you sink your teeth in, allowing you to truly enjoy a moment of indulgent bliss. These bars are on the sweet side (particularly if you typically opt for dark chocolate or bars with a high cocoa percentage), but they’re a great crowd-pleaser and one that vegans and non-vegans alike will enjoy.

8. BUTTERM!LK Caramel Nougat Choccy Bar
Cornish chocolatiers Butterm!lk have veganised some of the UK’s favourite chocolate bars, and we think they’re even better than the originals.
These dairy-free dupes include vegan versions of Bounty, Mars, Snickers and even Crunchie bars, all enrobed in their silky plant-based chocolate.
It’s hard to choose a favourite, but the combination of malt flavoured nougat with a caramel layer and a hint of sea salt make the Caramel Nougat Choccy Bar one of our go-tos when we need a sweet treat. It’s no surprise why this tasty bar has won numerous awards!

9. Ombar Fruit & Nut
Ombar has been paving the way for vegan chocolatiers since 2007, so it’s safe to say they know a thing or two about making great vegan chocolate bars.
In recent years, the company has released a range of creamy vegan milk chocolate bars made from oat milk, and we’re obsessed.
Ombar’s organic Oat M’lk chocolate bars are free from all of the nasty stuff such as palm oil and refined sugars. They also have half the carbon emissions of milk chocolate, making it one of the most sustainable chocolate bars on the market.
Each bar is made with unroasted cocoa (AKA raw cocoa nibs) meaning the chocolate is less processed and has a natural taste.
Now let’s talk flavours, Ombar Oat M’lk bars are available in four flavours: Smooth Original, Hazelnut, Salted Caramel Truffle (delicious), and Fruit & Nut (even more delicious).
The oat milk-based chocolate is so creamy, if you let a square of the chocolate sit on your tongue it will slowly melt into a creamy, indulgent, chocolatey puddle that just makes you smile. The flavour of cocoa lingers on the tongue to satisfying our chocolate cravings.
Similar to Tony’s, Ombar isn’t the cheapest chocolate bar available. Its price compared to its size may not be justifiable for some. But believe us, if you’re able to enjoy a bar of Oat M’lk every now and then, you’ll feel much for it.

10. H!P Salted Honeycomb Oat Milk Chocolate
When it comes to making great vegan chocolate bars, H!P know a thing or two about that! After all, the company was founded by James Cadbury – the great-great-great-grandson of the legendary chocolatier Mr John Cadbury.
While many brands use nut milks in place of dairy, H!P has opted for sustainable oat milk to give its bars a creamy texture. Personally, I find this gives the bars the most realistic milk chocolate flavour and texture as it allows the flavour of the cocoa to shine.
Unlike other chocolate bars, I don’t find H!P’s chocolate to be overly sugary. Instead, the fun flavours and crunchy textures of the bar are the real star of the show.
H!P offers a tempting range of flavours to choose from including Salted Honeycomb, Cookies No Cream, Salty Pretzel and the new Crunchy Orange flavour.
For this taste test, I tried the delightful new Crunchy Orange flavour and couldn’t get enough of the combination of zesty orange with pieces of crunchy waffle.
Not only are H!P’s bars delicious, but they’re a great planet-friendly option to traditional chocolate too as their cocoa is responsibly sourced and their packaging is 100% plastic-free.
If I could change one thing about these bars it would be to make them thicker to make them even more decadent.

11. Booja-Booja Almond Salted Caramel Truffles
We know that truffles aren’t a chocolate bar, but Booja-Booja’s vegan chocolate truffles deserve to be on this list. These award-winning truffles are pure luxury and each bite is better than the last.
Firstly, let’s talk about flavours. Booja-Booja’s truffles are available in a wide range of unique and exciting flavours. Whether you’re craving something nutty, something fruity, or something luxurious, they have a truffle for you.
Our top three favourite truffle flavours include Rhubarb & Vanilla Fool, Fine De Champagne, and Almond Salted Caramel.
Each truffle is coated with a bitter cocoa dusting and has an indulgent, creamy chocolate centre, each bringing a different taste sensation.

12. Moo Free Cookie Crunch
One of the UK’s most well-known free-from brands, family-owned Moo Free has been making allergy-friendly, plant-based chocolate for well over a decade.
With cute characters and fun flavours, the brand has delighted children and adults alike with tasty treats that are suitable for all.
Moo Free is offering a slew of interesting new products, and the most exciting to us is the Cookie Crunch bar, a bubbly white chocolate bar filled with crunchy cocoa balls.
This bar is really fun, with its bubbly appearance and great mix of textures.
The white chocolate and biscuity balls are perhaps a little bit too sweet for some tastes, but this bar really delivers on its promised crunch.
Overall, the Moo Free Cookie Crunch bar is a flavourful, enjoyable chocolate bar that’s sure to satisfy your sweet tooth – and one small bar is plenty!

13. NOMO Cookie Dough
Once you ditch dairy chocolate, Nomo is always there to hold your hand and show you that dairy chocolate is a thing of the past.
Its ethos of ‘no more missing out’ demonstrates how easy it can be to enjoy a chocolate treat without dairy.
Another bonus is that because Nomo is widely available in UK supermarkets, it’s always there when we’re on the go and need a sweet fix.
Additionally, the entire range is nut-free and gluten-free meaning everyone can enjoy it.
Nomo’s chocolate is available in big and small bars, chocolate drops, buttons, and even kids’ chocolate lollies. There are also plenty of exciting seasonal options available each year.
Our favourite of the range is the chunky Cookie Dough bar. This bar is filled with NOMO’s gluten-free cookie dough filling.
It’s a seriously hefty bar of chocolate, and while £3 feels a bit steep for a mid-range chocolate bar, it does feel like you get a lot for your money.
We found that in some of the pieces, particularly at the edge of the bar, the chocolate was a little too thick, leaving little space for the filling.
This was unfortunate, because we would have loved even more of the cookie dough!
Available as smaller bars, NOMO’s other flavours include Caramel, Caramel & Sea Salt, Orange Crunch, and Caramelised biscuits (another personal favourite).
Although Nomo is great for an everyday chocolate bar, we do find it lacks the rich cocoa taste that we crave.
However, the chocolate doesn’t lack creaminess. And, the chocolate is very sugary – it will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth.

14. Hotel Chocolat Unbelievably Vegan Chocolate Box
You may be surprised to learn that high-street chocolatier Hotel Chocolat has an extensive range of delicious dairy-free chocolate available. Its signature Nutmilk gives the chocolate a creamy and nutty flavour that replicated traditional dairy milk.
If you’re looking to treat someone, surprise them with the chocolatier’s Unbelievably Vegan chocolate box.
This selection box includes the best vegan chocolates from the brand. Our favourite is the Pecan and Nutmilk Truffle. The smooth textured centre is paired with a subtle taste of sweet pecan and a dash of sea salt for good measure.

15. Cadbury Plant Bar Smooth Chocolate
Following its launch in 2021, Cadbury’s Plant Bar has somehow found itself in my shopping trolley most weeks. We can’t get enough of the subtle nutty flavour you get in every bite thanks to the almond paste. Although a salted caramel flavour is available, the Smooth Chocolate is our favourite of the Plant Bars.
The Smooth flavour has a much creamier mouthfeel that melts perfectly on the tongue. Interestingly, Cadbury’s Plant Bar is Couverture chocolate, meaning it has higher levels of cocoa butter to give the bar a high gloss.
Now compared to the others, this isn’t the ‘perfect’ chocolate bar. It is lacking that slightly bitter cocoa flavour that I look for in chocolate and instead it can pack a sugary punch by the time we’ve eaten the whole thing.
It is also considerably smaller than Cadbury’s original Dairy Milk bar. But to us, a square or two of the Plant Bar is enough to satisfy my chocolate cravings when we need it most.

16. Coco Chemistry Vegan ‘Milc’ Mint Chocolate Slab
While many vegan chocolate makers use nuts to give their bars a creamy texture, Cocoba has come up with a unique alternative – chufa.
This unusual-sounding ingredient is actually made from powdered tiger nuts, which despite their name are actually nut-free. The result is a superbly silky texture without even a hint of graininess that you get from some vegan chocolate bars.
As well as giving the chocolate bars their amazing texture, chufa is also rich in antioxidants, so combined with the potent powers of cocoa it’s also a heart-healthy option. Not that we need an excuse to enjoy a square of these tasty bars!
Coco Chemistry offers a wide range of vegan chocolate bars, but the combination of its ‘milc’ chocolate swirled with mint infused dark chocolate make this one a winner in my books.
While many minty chocolate bars are typically made from dark chocolate, I love that this one uses milk chocolate. The combination of the sweeter chocolate with the hint of mint makes for a chocolate bar that’s sweetly indulgent, but not overwhelmingly sweet.
Cleverly, the chocolatiers have used natural mint oil so the mint flavour is fresh and natural, without being too overpowering. If you’re a fan of mint chocolate, this is must-try!

17. Cox & Co Miso and Caramel Dark Chocolate Bars
While you might be used to using miso in your dinners, have you ever tried it in a chocolate bar before? If not, this wonderfully different chocolate bar from Cox & Co should be on your ‘to try’ list.
Made from 47% Columbian cacao, the flavours are utterly entrancing, with each bite revealing new layers of complexity. On first bite, your tastebuds pick up on the powerful cacao flavour which has a very earthy taste and a deep richness that’s somewhere between dark and milk chocolate thanks to the white miso.
While your tongue is unravelling the flavour profile, the sea salt makes its entrance with a delicate crunch that lifts the salted caramel notes and makes them sing.
It’s the perfect bar for chocolate lovers who are tired of traditional flavours and in search of new experiences.

18. Fatso ‘Home Run’ Salted Pretzel, Whole Almond & Honeycomb Bar
If you like ’em big and chunky, then you’ll love Fatso Chocolate’s incredibly decadent chocolate bars. As the name would suggest, Fatso’s chocolate bars come in big slabs with generous-sized chunks filled with fun flavours.
There’s four fun flavours to choose from, and our favourite has to be the ‘Home Run’ bar with salted pretzel, whole almonds and honeycomb. It’s deliciously dark and satisfying, and the crunchy textures throughout make it so moreish it’s hard to stop yourself going back for more!
The ‘King’s Ransom’ with mint, pistachio and cacao nibs is also a winner with its refreshing flavours and nutty texture.
But the tempting flavours aren’t just a gimmick. Make no mistake, this is high quality, proper dark chocolate with a tasty twist. Fatso sources all of its chocolate from a single estate in Colombia to ensure an ethical treat that does good while tasting amazing.
The fun doesn’t end there though because as well as being super stylish and eye-catching (these bars make great gifts!), the packaging is eco-friendly too. At first, we were surprised to see the chocolate was wrapped in plastic, but it’s actually a plastic-free compostable wrap that you can compost at home.

19. Raw Halo Mylk & Pink Himalayan Salt
Raw Halo’s ‘feel good’ chocolate bars use organic plant-based ingredients to create smooth and satisfying vegan chocolate bars.
The ‘ethically-minded’ business makes a range of dark and ‘mylk’ chocolate bars with a range of indulgent flavours, beautifully presented in bold, colourful paper sleeves.
One flavour that really stood out to us was the Mylk & Pink Himalayan Salt bar.
The chocolate has a beautiful glossy finish and an amazing aroma.
It gives off a strong, sweet cocoa smell with a fruity edge that permeated my room for as long as the bar was open on my desk – which I loved, but it did make me hungry!
The bar’s ‘mylk’ chocolate creaminess comes from lucuma powder and creamed coconut, and the outcome is incredibly smooth. The chocolate practically melts in your mouth.
The raw cacao leaves a pleasant, bittersweet aftertaste on the tongue.
The pink Himalayan salt inclusion is very well done, with no large chunks of salt that can sometimes be unpleasant.
Instead, the salt is subtly dispersed through the chocolate, lifting the chocolate notes without adding a strong salty flavour at any point.

20. Happi Cacao Nibs Crunch
UK based oat milk chocolate brand Happi offers “all the ooooo without the moo” with dairy-free milk chocolate bars that also boast ‘35% less sugar than the leading milk chocolate brand’.
Happi also shows a commitment to sustainability with plant-based ingredients, single use plastic-free packaging, and slave-free chocolate.
I’ve enjoyed many of Happi’s other flavours, which include Chocolate Orange, Salted Caramel, and White Chocolate Raspberry, when testing Easter eggs and advent calendars, so I was keen to test the sophisticated-sounding Cacao Nibs Crunch bar too.
This bar features Happi’s melt-in-the-mouth plain oat milk chocolate as a base. It has rich cocoa notes with a flavour just slightly on the darker side of milk chocolate.
I suspect that the chocolate may have undergone a slight recipe change fairly recently, because it offered a much stronger, bittersweet flavour in a slightly lighter coloured bar than I remember.
For me, this is absolutely a good thing as this milk chocolate bar is sweeter, creamier, and much more like milk chocolate than the last time I tasted it.
This renewed sweetness balances wonderfully with the intensely chocolatey bitterness of the cacao nibs, which are generously studded over the back of the bar.
The nibs add a satisfying crunch to the bar, which really elevates the experience of tucking into a Happi oat milk chocolate bar.

How we tested
Testing chocolate is a hard job, but someone has to do it. We ranked these vegan chocolate bars based on flavour, texture, and price. Additional ingredients and flavours are of course welcomed, but a good quality classic chocolate bar is always a winner.
For us, the best vegan chocolate bar has to have the right level of sweetness without being overwhelming – absolutely no fuzzy teeth allowed! We also want to get a slightly bitter taste of cocoa throughout the bar to show that good quality cocoa has been used.
Bonus points have been given to brands who sustainably and ethically source their ingredients and use planet-friendly packaging.
