European cities have so much to offer holidaymakers looking to soak up the rich culture and sample the local cuisines. Thankfully these days you'll find plenty on offer for the vegan traveller too!

1. London, England

As the capital of England, London is full of incredible things to do. Whether you’re getting lost in the British Museum, spending hours around the incredible galleries, feeling a whirlwind of emotions at the theatre, or staring in awe at the architecture, it’s not a city that will leave you bored.

The best part though is veganism is growing in London with more and more eating options available that will fill your taste buds with glee and now boasts to have the more vegan restaurants than any other city in the world.

Now, there aren’t any 100% vegan hotels in London, but there are many that are increasingly giving vegan options. We’ve put a list together of some of the best ones available:

La Suite West in Hyde Park which also has it’s very own vegan restaurant onsite, Café Forty One.

There is one Vegan Suite at Hilton London Bankside made from natural materials, boosting a vegan mini bar selection, vegan in-room dining and luxury vegan bathroom products.

Clink78 Hostel is a cheaper alternative that sits close to well-known vegan restaurants like Itadaki Zen and Vx.

2. Budapest, Hungary

Ah Budapest. Think of yourself relaxing in luxury at the Gellért Baths, chilling on Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube, been transported to new worlds at the Opera House, or landing in a fairy tale as you walk through the Fisherman’s Bastion. Budapest is set to impress.

Fancy a hip hotel? Bohem Art Hotel is reported to have a good vegan breakfast and is only 50 yards from the Danube and well located to a number of restaurants and bars.

3. Lisbon, Portugal

Make sure you pack a solid pair of shoes so you can walk all day as the beautiful colours and landmarks of this city will keep you on your feet all day. Make sure you take a day trip to Sintra which is where you can find the fairytale palace of Pena and stunning romantic Quinta da Regaleira palace.

Casa do Mercado Lisboa is located close to the popular Time Out Market and also runs it’s own organic and bio restaurant, and able to do a decent vegan breakfast.

Fancy an upmarket boutique eco-hotel? Inspira Santa Marta Hotel is perfect for you as it happily caters for vegans and has a great selection of vegan options in their Mediterranean restaurant.

Lookout Lisbon Hostel is located right next to the Bairro Alto so the location is absolutely fantastic for sightseeing.

4. Milan, Italy

Did you know that the first Michelin star vegetarian restaurant in Europe was in 1996 to Milan’s own Milan Joia? Although not vegan, what Pietro Leeman did do is start to get the Milanese people to start to think outside of meat food. Now it’s quite on-trend to boycott the traditional trattoria and instead opt for a more veggie or vegan-friendly alternative. So much so that there are even authentic vegan pizzas to be found in Milan!

But don’t forget the sorbet, bursting with flavours and delight. Also, Milan is only 2 hours away from Montisola, the largest lake island in Europe. It’s a beautiful place to visit and going to Monte Isola is a stunning place to be. Definitely worth a day trip!

Although further out from the city, B&B de I Bravi is also 100% vegan.

Eco-Hotel La Residenza & Bio Restaurant makes its own specialities which are local and organic, and can-do vegan on request. It’s main selling point is that it’s a sustainable hotel which is always a plus in our books.

5. Warsaw, Poland

Did you know that there are 40 fully-vegan restaurants in Warsaw? More than that, there’s actually 500 that can give you a vegan option! This has set the Polish capital as one of the top 3 vegan-friendly cities in the world.

Warsaw is filled with a fascinating history so make sure you visit the Royal Castle to find out about the Polish royalty, the Communist regime and go on to the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising to understand more of what happened to the Polish population after World War II.

Go onto Laze in Royal Łazienki Park where in summer you can join in with free yoga and meditation classes.

Conveniently located close to the airport, town and shopping centre Best Western Hotel Felix is rumoured to have a very good vegan breakfast option.

Alternatively, Emma Hostel is exclusively vegetarian with vegan options available.

6. Vienna, Austria

Fancy a bit of opera or classical music? Well then step right into Vienna. With its beautiful opera house and classical concert halls, music has never been enjoyed more in such an incredible setting.

Don’t miss out on the gothic St.Stephen’s Cathedral, the Rathaus City Hall, the Hofburg Palace, or the Belvedere Palace surrounded by nature. They’ll leave you amazed by their beauty. Make sure you checkout Veganista as well, the city’s first fully vegan ice cream parlour!

Try a day tour to Vienna Woods where you can visit the stunning Liechtenstein Castle. Or to a tour to Wachau to see a number of ancient castles as well as the country’s most famous Baroque building, the Benedictine Abbey of Melk.

With a great range of vegan meals, Hotel Bristol is the perfect place to stay situated right next to the Vienna State Opera.

Having won awards for how eco-friendly it is, Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is a great place to stay with a delicious vegan breakfast.

7. Athens, Greece

When you think of Greece you tend to think of a more non-vegan-centric menu with their honey smothered Baklava, yoghurt-based tzatziki, and meat-based Moussaka.

But, there are traditionally Greek foods that are vegan-friendly such as Dolmades, olives, courgette balls and many more. So, you’ll actually find it easy to find a vegan restaurant, or meal when you’re out and about.

Athens is a beautiful place to visit with its incredible ancient monuments that will take you days to explore. Don’t forget you can do a number of day trips from the city such as seeing the Meteora monasteries, exploring Delphi, and visiting the islands just off the coast such as Hydra (where you can see the most incredible sunsets!).

The Ava Hotel & Suites is a beautiful boutique hotel that even offers a buffet breakfast.

Located in the suburbs, Veggie Garden B&B easily does a vegan breakfast on request which you can enjoy in the garden under the lemon trees:

8. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Fields of tulips, beautiful windmills, and painted clogs come to mind when you think of Amsterdam. But there is so much more to this city which is filled with incredible museums and galleries, picturesque streets, and a multitude of canals. Luckily for us there is also a lot of vegan food options available to tickle our taste buds.

Make sure you pay a visit to Mr and Mrs Watson where you can sample their famous, in-house made, vegan cheese!

With a collection of four eco-hotels in the city, Conscious Hotels are our top choice to stay at with plenty of vegan options.

The W Hotel is a lovely place to stay in a great location with an incredible spa, a rooftop pool, and soya milk served for you coffee at the bar. Just avoid the restaurant as it displays meat in its window.

9. Reykjavik, Iceland

There is much more to Iceland than just the Northern Lights, and a visit to Reykjavik will surely make you forget about the Aura Borealis entirely.

Iceland is rich in folklore and one of the most magical things you could do is get a guide to take you on a folklore tour. They can tell you the stories on the giants who got turned to stone in the sun, the chest of gold buried beneath the waterfall, and many more.

Don’t forget about the Geysir’s, incredible fault lines, magical waterfalls, ice climbing, incredible hikes, and the naturally warm lagoons. You’ll even be surprised at how vegan-friendly this city is with a multiple of options available.

Situated in the heart of downtown, Sand Hotel is the perfect place to stay.

Brimming with amenities, Radisson Blu Saga Hotel has a lot to offer but not many vegan options available.

The luxurious Hotel Borg is easy walking to a lot of the main attractions in the city.

10. Prague, Czech Republic

The perfect place it soak in the bohemian vibe, Prague is a beautiful place to visit and is incredibly vegan as well! Although the traditional food is extremely meat-heavy, if you step away to alternative restaurants many are vegetarian and happy to switch the dish for a vegan one.

While there make sure you visit the old town as well as the Jewish Quarter which tells the harrowing history Jews faced starting in the 13th Century, and venture out to the Terezin Concentration camp. For something more uplifting check out the Astronomical Clock as well as the Castle!

Although not vegan, the Hotel Pod Věží is very aware of veganism and are more than happy to help accommodate you.

Equally, although not vegan, the Friday Hotel is able to accommodate vegans with plenty of food options in their breakfast buffet.

11. Berlin, Germany

Germany has seen an increasing rate of vegetarianism and veganism over the past few years. According to the European Data Journal, Germany is reported to have over 11% of the country’s population (9.3 million) as vegetarian compared to 3.25% of the UK’s population (540,000).

So, it isn’t surprising to hear that there are a multitude of veggie-friendly restaurants, shops and hotels, which although not vegan, is a helpful step in the right direction for us vegans!

Berlin is full of rich history, the beautiful Tiergarten park, curious bathing lakes, the incredible Mauerpark Sunday flea market, cosmopolitan bars, and much much more.

The Almodóvar is a vegetarian hotel specialising in 100% organic food, and they happily accommodate for vegans. Make sure you check out the wellness spa while you’re there!

With panoramic breakfast views of the city, Hotel Otto is an awesome place to stay. Let them know in advance that you’re vegan and you’ll be dining on delicious vegan pancakes, and much more!

A&O is a vegan-friendly hostel chain with four hostels across Berlin. They always offer vegan alternatives and can-do other meals as well. The Mitte one, in particular, is nice and central so is a top pick!

12. Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh has an incredible street food scene and you’ll be happy to hear they have great vegan options, particularly in Leith where they host a vegan special on the first Saturday of every month making the market either a third, or half, full of vegan options.

Don’t forget about the vegan festivals which Edinburgh hosts at least four on a yearly basis.

Outside of street food, there are a lot of vegan options across the city to fill your tastes buds as you explore this gorgeous city. And you’ll need all the food you can get to keep you fuelled as you explore!

Check out the old town, hike up to Arthur’s Seat, and try and see if you can find Tom Riddles gravestone (if you’re a Harry Potter fan!).

Only 20 minutes walk from the centre, the Albyn Townhouse is a gorgeous place to stay with great views. Plus, you can even get a delicious range of vegan breakfasts to start your day right.

Although a vegetarian hotel, the Claymore Vegetarian Guest House does have lots of vegan options for you, and we’ve heard the vegan breakfast is a daily treat.

13. Gothenburg, Sweden

The Botanical Garden in Gothenburg is one of the finest in Europe so it is a must-see that will keep you occupied for hours on end. Located on the west coast be sure to take a boat trip out to visit the islands, view the granite cliffs, and see the picturesque fishing villages.

Equally the Gothenburg Museum of Art is a must-see with their incredible collection of Nordic art. If you fancy something a bit different try an indoor rainforest at the Universeum.

Hotel Waterfront boasts beautiful views of the river to help make your stay divine.
