Confused about which Greggs vegan options are available? Here’s a complete guide to what you can enjoy next time you hit the high street.

Wander down any UK high street and you’ll no doubt come across a Greggs bakery. It’s the perfect place to stop for a quick snack, sandwich or baked treat.

Founded in 1939 as a bakery in Tyneside, the chain has since expanded to over 2,000 stores and has become a bit of a British institution.

Until early 2019, vegan options at Greggs were pretty much non-existent. But as veganism became more mainstream and more people started to reduce their meat intake, Greggs decided to get in on the action with the launch of the Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll. The company is now part of a huge number of places offering vegan options at chain restaurants.

Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll

Greggs launched a vegan version of its most popular item just in time for Veganuary 2019 – a vegan sausage roll.

This seemingly insignificant event caused quite a stir. As everyone scrambled to try this exciting new product, the vegan sausage roll sold out at numerous outlets across the country.

Piers Morgan even tweeted about it, saying “Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.” Which, of course, simply helped make the new vegan sausage roll even more popular.

In fact, the success of the launch saw strong company growth, and 25,000 employees were given a bonus of £300 each.

Following this launch, numerous other fast food outlets began to up their game and release vegan versions of their best-selling items, including McDonalds, Burger King and KFC.

This Greggs menu staple is made with Quorn Mycoprotein, around 96 layers of light puff pastry and mirrors the meat-version in terms of texture and taste.

The Vegan Sausage Roll costs £1.20, or you can buy 4 for the price of 3 for £3.15.
