'Punk Rock Vegan Movie', which is Moby's directorial debut, shines a light on the history of punk rock and animal rights

A film looking into the ‘surprising’ history of punk rock and its connection to animal rights will make its festival debut this month.
Punk Rock Vegan Movie, directed by Moby, will be the Opening Night film for the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival on January 20 in Park City, Utah.
The movie, which marks Moby’s directorial debut, is described as a ‘passionate and stylistically idiosyncratic look at the ongoing relationship between the worlds of punk rock and animal rights’. It tells the story of ‘how punk rock became such a fertile and surprising breeding ground for vegan activism‘.
It features interviews with major names from the punk rock world, including Dave Navarro, Tony Kanal, Amy Lee, and Captain Sensible among others.
As well as telling this story, the movie acts as a call to arms, urging people to ‘stand up and fight intelligently, passionately, and loudly against injustice’.
After the film premieres at the Slamdance Film Festival, it will be available for free online.

Punk Rock Vegan Movie
Passionate vegan celebrity Moby’s foray into the world of vegan documentaries will come as no surprise to his fans, who are familiar with the multi-platinum-selling, multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and author’s commitment to animal rights activist.
Despite his success as a musician, and his love for music, he describes his life’s work as ‘helping to create a world wherein animals and all sentient beings simply are free to live their own lives’.
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Moby said: “Punk Rock Vegan Movie was created to shine a light on the surprising and inspiring history of punk rock and animal rights, but also to remind people of the importance and desperate urgency of adopting the uncompromising ethics and actions of the original punk rock activists.
“After it makes its world premiere at Slamdance, it’s yours. It’s my goal to give the movie away, as I can’t in good conscience try to profit from what is essentially a labor of love and activism.”
