Discover the vegan options available at Subway to help you mix and match your perfect lunch on-the-go
Subway first hit the vegan scene back in 2019 with the launch of its vegan-friendly plant patty. Today, there are plenty of tasty plant-based options to choose from at Subway UK.
Its vegan menu has since boomed with the addition of its Meatless Meatball Marinara in 2020, its much-loved T.L.C. and Double Chocolate Cookie in 2021, and its Teriyaki ‘Steak’ Sandwich in 2023.
However, with limited-time releases, and an ever-changing range, it can be hard to keep up with the vegan options available at Subway.
Many of us are still mourning the loss of the T.L.C., but there are still plenty of options for vegans in Subway today…

Vegan specials at Subway
Subway’s menu frequently updates with new and exciting options. In the past, Subway’s menu has featured limited-time vegan specials including the T.L.C. (Tastes Like Chicken) Tikka sub which was available for Veganuary 2022.
Currently, the Subway Series Menu offers a range of set sandwiches, with pre-selected fillings so they can be ordered with minimal effort.
The vegan option on the Subway Series Menu is the Rockin’ Moroccan Wrap.
This features a Spiced Plant Patty with marinara sauce, crispy onions, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, sweet onion sauce and garlic & herb sauce all served in a toasted tortilla wrap.

New for 2024, the sandwich chain has added a brand new vegan Sub to its range in celebration of Veganuary.
Joining the chain’s meat-free line-up is the very tasty new Plant Picante which features a spiced plant patty topped with crispy onions, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers in a Sweet Onion and Garlic & Herbs sauce.
Vegans can swap out the American-style cheese for the chain’s Vegan Cheeze to make this sub vegan-friendly.

Which breads are vegan at Subway?
Subway in the UK offers plenty of bread options for vegans. In fact, only the Italian Herb & Cheese and Honey & Oat breads aren’t suitable for vegans.
Subway also offers tortilla wraps and salads, which can be made with vegan fillings and toppings.
Which Subway sandwich fillings are vegan?
There are currently two plant-based protein options available in Subway in the UK. These are the classic Plant Patty and a Plant-Based Steak.
Subway also offers a plant-based Vegan CheeZe and a wide choice of fresh veggies to customise your sandwich.
There are plenty of vegan sauces and toppings to add to your sandwich too, meaning endless possible flavour combinations for your lunch

Vegan extras at Subway
Subway offers a range of sides, snacks and drinks to make your sandwich into a full meal.
Hungry vegans can add a side of hot Hash Browns or Crinkle Cut wedges, or even a Double Chocolate Cookie to their order.
To drink, Subway offers a range of bottled and fountain soft drinks, that are almost all vegan-friendly.
However, Subway serves Pepsi brand drinks, so avoid asking for a ‘diet coke’, as diet Pepsi is not a vegan-friendly drink.
If you prefer a hot drink, Subway’s flavoured coffee syrups are all vegan-friendly, but stores don’t offer plant-based milk alternatives so you’ll need to take your tea or coffee black.

Are there any gluten-free vegan options at Subway?
Subway’s gluten-free bread is vegan, but all of the currently available plant protein options contain gluten.
However, the Veggie Delite sandwich option contains only salad, cheese, and toppings. Just make sure you request vegan cheese, which is gluten-free.
Most sauces and toppings are gluten-free, but the Teriyaki Sauce and Crispy Onions do contain wheat.
The Hash Browns and Crinkle Wedges are also gluten-free and suitable for vegans.

Cross-contamination risk in Subway
There is a relatively high risk of cross-contamination in Subway, as all the veggies are out on the salad bar and sometimes equipment is shared between meat and non-meat sandwich preparation.
However, in most stores care is taken to avoid cross-contamination, and sandwich artists will change their gloves and tools between sandwiches if asked.
In Subway, sandwiches are made in full view, so if you’re ordering your sandwich in person you’re likely to avoid any issues and know exactly what’s gone into your sub.
