Biff’s originally sold its wings product in the fridge, but says the new product is not only better value, but also more sustainable with a 'cleaner' recipe

Biff’s Plant Shack has launched new jackfruit wings and cutlets in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.

Its new vegan offering is a third cheaper than its original wings, which were available in the fridge section of stores.

According to Biff’s, not only are its ‘Jackfruit 2.0’ Burger Cutlets and Wings better value, they are also more sustainable.

And, it says, the latest recipe deck is ‘cleaner’, boasting more than 50 per cent whole plant-based ingredients.

The new vegan burgers and wings also pack in less additives and salt, and less processing than the average plant-based chicken option. They are free from artificial flavours, palm oil and GMO ingredients.

This is because Jackfruit’s natural meat-like fibrous texture removes the need for additives like methylcellulose and thickeners.

Its chicken-style cutlets (rsp: £3.50/200g) boast a panko crumb coating, and its wings (rsp: £3.50/200g) feature jackfruit on a sugarcane bone to replicate the experience of eating traditional wings.

Biff’s Plant Shack launches new products

Biff Burrows, co-founder of Biff’s Plant Shack, told the Grocer that the brand wanted to offer an option for customers who aren’t keen on the typical plant-based alternatives.

He said: “We estimate that 85 per cent of vegan products in the meat-free aisle are rooted in the same three core ingredients, and we want to change that.

“I believe classic meat alts have their place in the market, but they don’t engage everyone and many products are just too similar, which is why we’re starting to see plant-based demand slow and customers crave the variety and vibrancy of fruit & veg.”

He has also said that the products ‘offer something different’, celebrating great ingredients ‘in their own right’ and ‘offering fantastic eating experiences’.

According to the brand, its move from the fridge to the freezer means it can ‘reduce our price on shelf without compromising on quality’.

As well as being available now in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK, Biff’s new reformulated burgers and wings will roll out across foodservice in July, launching in Bidfood, Brakes and a range of regionals.
