Heavenly Desserts has partnered with Asian-inspired food giant itsu to launch vegan chocolate bao buns nationwide.

The ‘warm and fluffy’ vegan desserts are filled with a  melt-in-the-middle chocolate filling and are served alongside a caramel dipping sauce.

From June 22, the sweet treats will be available in Heavenly Desserts’ 48 restaurants across the UK. Earlier this year, itsu launched the chocolate bao buns in Tesco stores nationwide – alongside its salted caramel flavour version.

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Yousif Aslam, co-founder of Heavenly Desserts, said: “Partnering with household name brands like itsu is such an exciting step for us.

“We’re always drawing inspiration from other cuisines. Recently, [we] launched our springtime drinks range crafted from authentic Japanese flavours such as matcha and yuzu.

“These have been really popular. So, alongside the bao buns we are also announcing our Strawberry Daquiri mocktail and extending our springtime drinks into summer for the perfect refresher.”

A ‘phenomenal’ product

itsu founder Julian Metcalfe hailed the release of its new sweet baos as a ‘historic breakthrough’.

“Every now and then, the team hits a bullseye; this is one such lucky example,” he added.

“After more than 50 failed trials, we managed to get rich quality chocolate to flow, molten warm, from inside the fluffy bao bun. It’s the result of our dedicated 10-person strong NPD team who have worked tirelessly for one year to create this phenomenal first-to-market new product.”

Itsu’s sweet chocolate bao buns will be available in Heavenly Desserts’ 48 restaurants across the UK from June 22.
