The Tofoo Co has partnered with vegan restaurant chain Temple of Seitan to launch two new plant-based meat retail products.
Launching in May, the new products include a chicken-flavoured seitan block, Original Seitan, which will retail at £2.50 for 225g.
The other product is Pepperoni Seitan, described as a ‘smoky and spicy’ alternative to pepperoni, also retailing at £2.50.
According to the Tofoo Co, these new products will capitalise on the growing demand for protein alternatives.
Coming to stores next month, the Original Seitan will be available to purchase in both Tesco and Waitrose stores, while the Seitan Pepperoni is currently available exclusively at Waitrose.

The Tofoo Co MD Dave Knibbs told The Grocer: “Consumers are looking for products that offer more versatility as to what meals they can cook.
“The Tofoo Co’s Seitan lines offer shoppers the scratch-based cooking and health benefits they are craving, whilst also providing a meatier texture than tofu and tempeh that will appeal flexitarians and omnivores.”

Temple of Seitan co-founder Patrick O’Shea added that the chain has served more than 250,000 diners over the last 12 months.
He added that there is ‘a strong demand for seitan as a plant-based protein that delivers a meaty texture and taste’.
Noting that tofu is a ‘key ingredient’ in the seitan, he added that the brand is ‘excited’ to be partnering with The Tofoo Co to launch the retail products.
‘Innovation’
According to Dave Knibbs, there has been ‘a lack of real innovation in the meat-free category’ in recent times, which he said meant that sales had dropped.
However, he added, there is consumer demand for exciting new products in the sector.
He pledged to ‘bring excitement back to the category’ via the products launched in partnership with Temple of Seitan.
Plus, he noted, he was hoping the launches will ‘shake up’ the meat-free category, and that they represent ‘a real opportunity in natural meat-free ingredients’.
