Nestlé has announced that its vegan KitKat V is making its long-awaited comeback after it disappeared from supermarket shelves earlier this year.
Following its successful launch in the UK in 2021, KitKat V will now be launching in 15 additional countries across Europe.
Nestlé’s latest vegan chocolate bar will now be sold in the UK, Germany, France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Greece, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
Originally, the popular four-finger treat was available in Sainsbury’s for £1 during its UK test launch. However, it is unclear if the chocolate bar will remain at that price or whether it will be available at more stores throughout the UK.
An official release date for the vegan KitKat V is yet to be announced, but reports suggest they will begin rolling out the KitKat V across Europe from Friday.
Furthermore, from January 2023, vegan KitKats will also be available to purchase in a three-pack.

Vegan KitKat V ingredients
Ingredients: sugar, cocoa butter, WHEAT flour, corn fibre, rice syrup powder, cocoa mass, vegetable fats (palm kernel, palm), fat-reduced cocoa powder, emulsifier (lecithins), natural vanilla flavouring, raising agent (sodium bicarbonate).
Nestlé’s vegan KitKat V features smooth dairy-free chocolate blended with a rice-based alternative to milk and the brand’s signature crisp wafer.
Like the rest of the KitKat range, it is made using 100% certified sustainable cocoa, sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance.
Interestingly, the bar was developed by chocolatiers and food scientists in Nestle’s Research and Development centre in York, the original home of KitKat. KitKat V also has an 18% lower carbon footprint than the original KitKat.
In 2021, Louise Barrett, Head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Centre, shared with Vegan Food & Living: “Our challenge when we set out to create a vegan-friendly KitKat was to recreate this iconic product using plant-based alternatives.”
“The response from consumers was overwhelming”
Following the latest announcement from Nestlé, Barrett explained: “Last year, we took the decision to produce KitKat V in our R&D production facilities so we could bring the product to the shelves much faster and test with our consumers.
The response from consumers was overwhelming, and we are now excited to launch it at a much wider scale.”
Brand Manager for KitKat Sascha Macchi, also made a statement to Vegan Food & Living, explaining: “KitKat is such a successful brand because it has evolved throughout its history.
“The arrival of our vegan-friendly bar means there is now a delicious alternative for anyone looking to enjoy a plant-based break. We hope people love it as much as we do!”
