This rich and fruity cocktail is the height of luxury. With sloe gin, crème de cassis, and a sparkling Prosecco finish, this deep red drink is the perfect way to toast the festive season.

The fruit-infused gin and blackcurrant liqueur add a decadently fruity flavour to this Prosecco cocktail that will refresh and delight your party guests.

To make a convincing alternative for alcohol-free guests, add a measure of blackcurrant cordial to No-secco or sparkling elderflower pressé to create a fruity royale mocktail.

Is crème de cassis vegan?

Despite its name, crème de cassis does not usually contain any dairy or other animal ingredients, meaning that most blackcurrant liqueurs will be suitable for this vegan sloe royale cocktail.

Chambord, which is a black raspberry liqueur, is commonly used in the kir royale cocktails that inspired this vegan sloe royale recipe. However, be mindful that Chambord contains honey, so it’s a good idea to check for this ingredient in similar brands.

What is sloe gin?

Sloe gin is a British gin liqueur, made from sloe which are the deep purple fruit from blackthorn bushes. Sloe may look like berries, but they are actually a fruit more closely related to plums.

The sloe gin is made by infusing gin with the sloe fruits to create a fruity, deep red liqueur. It can be store bought, but is a popular home made tipple.

Sloe fruit is easily foraged in the British countryside, and is traditionally picked for sloe gin after the first frost, making it a perfect festive tipple for the eco-conscious.
