Elevate your gin and tonic this festive season with this refreshing vegan gin and tonic recipe.

With a twist of mint, a cucumber flair, and a zesty lime finish, this refined cocktail will please the most discerning of palates.

The bright, fresh flavours of this drink are delightfully refreshing, particularly after a slew of rich roasts, decadent desserts, and festive feasts.

Is gin vegan?

Most gins are vegan friendly, as the traditional recipe does not use any animal products or processes. However, flavour-infused gins are in vogue, and some of these may use animal products, like honey, in the infusion.

The lime, cucumber and mint in this vegan gin and tonic recipe add plenty of flavour to your cocktail so it’s best to use a plain gin, which will be better for your drink’s flavour and more likely to be vegan-friendly.

How to make the cucumber spiral

Adding the cucumber spiral to your glass is a simple but effective way to add flair to your drink, and it also infuses your cocktail with the refreshing taste of cucumber.

To make the spiral, simply slice your cucumber lengthways as thinly as you can. Then lay the thin slice lengthways around the inside of your glass, gently pressing the cucumber against the side to help it stay in place. Pour your drink gently into the glass to keep the cucumber in its neat spiral.

For a more muddled look, use a spiraliser to turn your cucumber into long, thin ‘springs’ and place a spring into the centre of each glass before pouring your drink.
