Aldi has been awarded cruelty-free certification on cleaning products by international animal welfare organisation Cruelty Free International.
The Leaping Bunny certification from Cruelty Free International will appear on all of Aldi’s own brand household cleaning products. Aldi is known for their focus on animal welfare and sustainability, and their policy has included an animal testing policy for some time stating that:
‘It is our policy in the UK and Ireland that all of our own-label cosmetics, toiletries and household products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals.’
The discounter, which has met Cruelty Free International’s ‘rigorous no animal testing criteria’, will now feature the Leaping Bunny Logo – the only globally recognised certification for cosmetics, personal care, and household cleaning – across the own-label cleaning collection. Aldi is the nation’s fifth largest supermarket and boasts a 6.9% share of the UK market. With over 700 stores throughout the country, the availability of Leaping Bunny certified household products on the British high street is set to increase significantly.
Not suitable for vegans
However, the discounted cleaning products are not yet suitable for vegans, although Aldi has been praised in the past for it’s efforts to label it’s vegan food products. If you’d like to discover the best vegan cleaning products for you, check out our guide to vegan cleaning products.
Aldi celebrates receiving cruelty-free status
Speaking about the decision to grant Aldi’s cleaning products cruelty-free status, Cruelty Free International chief executive Michelle Thew said:
“Having high profile companies like Aldi becoming certified by Leaping Bunny shows growing public awareness about the animal suffering involved in cleaning products and a rapidly expanding consumer market for ethical products. We congratulate Aldi for demonstrating its commitment to eliminating animal testing and helping its customers make a cruelty-free decision when purchasing cleaning products.”
Aldi UK communications director Mary Dunn stated that the decision was made with consumers in mind, as more people than ever before are opting for cruelty-free alternatives: “By partnering with Cruelty Free International to have its globally recognised Leaping Bunny logo on our products, we’re making it even easier for our customers to make informed decisions about their shopping.
More than 600 companies have been awarded Leaping Bunny certification, including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, The Co-op, Superdrug and Morrisons.
