Cathedral City launches its first vegan cheese range – find out where you can get it

Cathedral City has launched its first vegan cheese range, which it says will ‘invigorate the plant-based sector’.

The brand, which topped the UK rankings for dairy cheese sales last month, has crafted three dairy-free products to enhance the offerings of vegan cheese available in UK supermarkets.

Among the products, which it says took its experts ‘years to develop’, are its Block (280g), Sliced (150g) and Grated (150g) cheddar varieties.

According to Cathedral City, it crafted the product in response to growing consumer demand for plant-based cheese, with the sector now worth some £40.2 million in the UK.

With around seven per cent of UK households currently buying dairy-free alternatives to cheese, it says the new line is ‘the ideal choice for those looking to reduce their consumption of dairy-based products without having to sacrifice taste, texture or quality’.

Cathedral City takes on plant-based

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Neil Stewart, Head of Marketing for Cathedral City at Saputo Dairy UK, said: “This is an exciting moment for the dairy-free cheese sector.

“Demand for free-from alternatives is soaring but for some shoppers there hasn’t been an offering which is good enough to encourage them to purchase regularly.

“That’s where our new plant-based range comes in, thanks to its delicious and unrivalled flavour and texture.

“This launch is a momentous occasion for Cathedral City; extending our portfolio into dairy-free alternatives for the first time with a range of great tasting alternatives to cheese, meaning more people can enjoy our delicious products.”

Cathedral City’s vegan cheese range is currently available in Tesco stores across the UK, with an RRP of Plant-Based Block (£3.60), Sliced (£2.30), Grated (£2.30).
