After going fully plant-based in 2019, Upfield’s Flora controversially added milk back into its famous spread back in 2020. Now it says it’s committed to delivering a 100% vegan range once again…
Flora has announced its entire range of spreads are now 100 percent plant-based and free from palm oil.
Owned by Upfield, the margarine giant says the products feature a ‘new and improved’ dairy-free recipe that still provides ‘great taste and versatility’.
The vegan spreads will be available at all major UK supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, ASDA, and Morrisons.

‘Deliciously dairy-free’
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Ian Hepburn of Upfield said: “We’ve been continuously working to deliver a fully 100 percent plant-based range, that is even tastier and are pleased that Flora Buttery is now deliciously dairy free.
“Our purpose is at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to make new products to continue the Flora movement.
“Plant-based is no longer just an alternative, and when the products are this delicious and affordable, sustainable choices become easy.”

Flora Controversy
Back in 2019, Flora became 100 percent plant-based and had its products certified by the Vegan Society.
It removed dairy from its entire range of spreads including Original, Light, and Buttery variants.
However, a year later and the brand announced its beloved Flora Buttery had been reformulated to once again contain buttermilk.
Upfield claimed the change was due to customer feedback, stating shoppers preferred the ‘familiar taste profile’ of its dairy spread.
