Vegan hair care brand Aveda has proudly announced that it has been approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny Programme.

This means the company has been recognised for its range of cruelty-free beauty products – including the ingredients and production methods.

Since its founding in 1978, Aveda has opposed animal testing and has been committed to reaching its ethical goals.

To be awarded the Leaping Bunny, Cruelty Free International has now verified that Aveda does not conduct or commission animal tests for its products, raw materials and ingredients.

In order to maintain the approval and keep the Leaping Bunny, Cruelty Free International will audit Aveda every 12 months.

In a statement made to Vegan Food & Living, Aveda’s Global Brand President, Barbara De Laere said, “Aveda was founded on the principle to care for the world we live in, and this includes always being opposed to animal testing.

“We have been a leader in sustainability for more than 40 years, and we are proud to underscore this commitment to our planet with our Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny approval, the internationally-recognizable gold standard.”

Sustainability is another core aspect of the company, with its primary facility operating on 100% wind and solar power.

The brand also pioneered the use of 100% recycled materials in its PET bottles and is striving to eliminate the use of virgin petroleum-based plastic.

Another step towards a cruelty-free future

Aveda being awarded the Leaping Bunny is a sign of yet another company being recognised for its ethics and commitment to not using animals in any part of the production process.

At the time of writing, there are currently 2,286 companies that have been officially certified with the Leaping Bunny logo.

The CEO of Cruelty Free International, Michelle Thew, said: “Aveda has a well-deserved reputation for its decades-long commitment to ethical business and sustainability. I am thrilled that this now includes Leaping Bunny approval for Aveda’s products.”

The cosmetic giant Garnier was also granted the cruelty-free Leaping Bunny certification last year.

Another UK household name, Soap & Glory, is now certified cruelty-free following its Leaping Bunny approval from Cruelty Free International.

It’s an exciting time to see such progress toward more vegan and cruelty-free practices specifically within the beauty industry.
