Oowee Vegan has unveiled its latest vegan burger, the Ocean Burger.
The Ocean Burger is a veganised version of a classic fish fillet burger with the help of the Asian meat alternative brand OmniFoods.
The vegan Omni fish patty is coated in a light batter and served on a bed of crisp lettuce and creamy tartar sauce and topped with a spoonful of minted mushy peas.
To celebrate the launch, Oowee gave away 500 free Ocean Burgers across the country.
Moreover, this limited-edition burger is available until August 14th.
Oowee Vegan began as a fast-food staple in Bristol and has continued to grow the brand, opening multiple chains across the UK.
Usually specialising in vegan chicken burgers and ‘beef’ patties, the Ocean Burger is a first-of-its-kind for Oowee.
OmniFood debuted its vegan fish in Veganuary 2022 in a partnership with Wagamama.
Furthermore, the brand has since launched plant-based tuna cans which are available to purchase online.
Vegan fish alternatives
Plant-based fish products have been filling supermarket shelves and restaurant menus over the past year.
While tofu and banana blossom are great alternatives to fish, brands have used ingredients such as pea protein and soya to recreate a fish-like texture.
Supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s and M&S have launched their own fish-free range, including vegan salmon fillet and tempura ‘prawns’.
In addition, Derek Sarno‘s Good Catch has released vegan tuna and crab-style cakes to Tesco.
As more people continue to cut fish from their diet, we expect to see a great selection of fish-free products available very soon.
