Muthia is a traditional Indian street food snack, and this vegan muthia also makes a great starter or side dish for a fiery Valentine’s Day meal.
Served alongside a warming vegan curry, it’s a delicious way to set the mood and ignite romance in your night.
These steamed fenugreek dumplings are fragrant and soft, with a beautiful balance of earthy and fresh flavours.
Fenugreek contains compounds that the body uses to produce oestrogen and testosterone, giving it aphrodisiacal properties.
How to cook muthia
Muthia is named after its ‘fist-shaped’ appearance, as it is traditionally pressed between two fists to create its iconic shape. However, slicing rounds from a sausage of dough creates a similar effect, and keeps your hands cleaner.
It can be served simply steamed for a soft, bouncy dough with a satisfying bite. If you want to try it this way, shape your dough into individual portions before steaming.
However, frying this vegan muthia give them a firmer texture and a lovely crispy finish. This is best done in a pan with a little oil, but they can also be cooked in an air fryer.
Pan- or air- frying muthia is also a great way to refresh any leftovers the next day.
